Transfer firm ownership
Hand over the firm owner role to another admin securely and irreversibly.

What ownership transfer does
Each firm has exactly one owner. The owner has full control: they can transfer ownership, delete the firm, change billing, and manage every other admin. Transfer is how you change who that single owner is — for example, when a managing partner steps down or the firm reorganises.
After transfer the old owner is **demoted to admin**. They keep firm admin permissions until you remove them explicitly. The new owner immediately gains full ownership rights.
Transfer is irreversible. Only the new owner can transfer it back. If the new owner loses access or leaves the firm, recovery requires admin support intervention and proof of ownership.
Before you can transfer
- Your firm must be **verified** — the verification badge has to be visible on the firm header.
- You must have **two-factor authentication (AAL2)** active on your account. The transfer page checks your MFA level before allowing confirmation.
- The new owner must already be an **admin** of the firm. You cannot promote a member straight to owner — promote them to admin first from the Members page, then run the transfer.
How to transfer
Once the prerequisites are met:
- Open **Dashboard → Firm → Transfer ownership**.
- Pick the admin you want to become the new owner from the list.
- Click **Transfer ownership** — a confirmation dialog appears summarising the change.
- Confirm in the dialog. The change applies immediately and you are redirected to the firm dashboard.
What happens at the moment of transfer
The system updates the `owner_id` on the firm record, demotes the old owner to admin, and writes an audit-log entry. Both the old and new owner receive a confirmation notification.
Billing, Stripe Connect, SSO, and all other firm-level integrations stay attached to the firm itself — they do not move with the owner. The new owner inherits all of them.
After the transfer
Tell the new owner to verify their access by opening the firm dashboard and the danger-zone actions (transfer, delete). If anything is missing, an admin support ticket can re-verify the role assignment within a couple of business days.
If you transferred to the wrong person
Ask the new owner to transfer back to you. If they refuse or are unavailable, contact LeyApp support with your firm's CIF/NIF, bar association letter, and a sworn statement. Recovery is manual and not guaranteed — that is why the confirmation dialog warns you twice.
