# Claiming a firm

Claim an existing verified firm, join via invite code, or create a new one.

## Verify your colegiado number first

Before you can create or join a firm, your lawyer profile must carry a bar registration (bar association + colegiado number). The wizard shows both for confirmation; if they are missing it sends you to Settings → Practice to add them. Firm membership inherits that registration — it doesn't replace it.

## Create a new firm or join an existing one

Open **My Firm** in the dashboard sidebar and click **Create or Join a Firm**. If your firm is not on LeyApp yet, choose *Create a new firm*. If colleagues already have it set up, ask the owner for an 8-character invite code and choose *Join an existing firm*.

## Search before creating

Type the firm name and LeyApp searches both its directory of Spanish law firms and firms already registered on the platform. If the firm exists, click **Claim this firm** instead of creating a parallel entry — duplicates make the bar-association side harder to reconcile.

## Creating a new firm

Only the firm name is required. Description, city, phone, address, website and founding year are optional and editable later. The CIF/NIF and bar letter come afterwards, in verification. The lawyer who creates a firm becomes its owner automatically and can invite other colegiados right away.

## Joining via invite code or link

Owners and admins generate invite codes (single-use by default, 7-day expiry) or send email invitations from the invite section of My Firm. Paste the code in the wizard under *Join an existing firm*, or click the link in the invitation email while signed in.

## Disputed ownership

If a firm is already owned by someone else, you cannot create a second copy. Open a dispute with evidence (CIF/NIF document, bar letter, firm-domain email). A LeyApp administrator reviews it; if the dispute is approved you become owner and the previous owner is kept as a member.
