# Fast-Track Your Spanish Citizenship: Who Qualifies for the 2-Year Path?

Did you know that you might not need to wait 10 years to become a Spanish citizen? Learn about the 2-year fast track.

Did you know that you might not need to wait 10 years to become a Spanish citizen? Spain offers a highly sought-after fast-track citizenship program that reduces the residency requirement to just two years for specific nationalities.

## The General Rule vs. The Fast Track
Standard naturalization in Spain requires 10 years of continuous, legal residency. However, to strengthen ties with historically linked nations, Spain reduces this to exactly two years for citizens of:
- Ibero-American countries (e.g., Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Brazil)
- Portugal
- The Philippines
- Andorra
- Equatorial Guinea

## Does Time on a Student Visa Count?
No. This is a common misconception. Time spent in Spain on a student visa (Estancia por Estudios) does not count towards your two-year residency requirement. You must hold a valid residency permit, such as the Digital Nomad Visa, Golden Visa, or Highly Qualified Professional Visa.

## What Are the Requirements?
Once you hit the two-year mark, you must pass two exams (unless you are from a Spanish-speaking country, in which case you are exempt from the language test):
1. **DELE A2:** Basic Spanish language proficiency.
2. **CCSE:** A test on Spanish culture and constitution.
